The Guinea-Bissau Readiness Project aims to provide the country with the essential tools to access climate finance more effectively. The initiative rests on two key pillars: developing a Country Program, conceived through a participatory process, which establishes a national framework for addressing the adverse impacts of climate change while aligning with the GCF requirements and establishing a National Designated Authority (NDA), tasked with coordinating relations with the Green Climate Fund and ensuring coherence in the country’s climate finance agenda.
By advancing these priorities, the project builds Guinea-Bissau’s institutional and technical capacities, enabling national institutions to meet their commitments to the GCF with greater efficiency. It also fosters deeper involvement of the stakeholders in the mobilization of climate finance and brings the private sector to the forefront, encouraging its participation in climate-smart investments and expanding its access to international resources.
The program seeks to build a stronger national system for climate finance, improved collaboration between public and private actors, and expanded access to GCF resources through accredited national entities. Collectively, these achievements provide Guinea-Bissau with a more inclusive and resilient climate finance framework, supporting both national adaptation and sustainable development goals.
