The city of Kandi, in northern Benin, close to the W Park, held a train-the-trainer session for the benefit of producers working in the field of agroforestry and small-scale irrigation, on September 6 - 9, 2022.
The four-day training that targeted the communities of Kandi, Malanville, Karimama and Banikoara bordering the W Park, falls within the activities of the AdaptWAP project 3rd component « Implementing concrete adaptation actions to improve the resilience of ecosystems, populations and the livelihoods of users.
It is an opportunity for the vulnerable populations living next to the W Park to build and improve their cultivation and conservation capacities, and to adapt to climate change.
At the end of the theoretical and practical training, four nurserymen, eight market gardeners and rice growers, and twenty breeders and farmers learned about how to produce seedlings in the nurseries, the small-scale irrigation and the agroforestry techniques.
It is worth noting that the beneficiaries of the training session will become local trainers and will have to pass on their knowledge in each of the four cities bordering the W park.
For the record, the « Integration of Climate Change Adaptation Measures in the Consolidated Management of the Transboundary Wap Complex (AdaptWAP) » project, is financed by the Adaptation Fund and implemented by the NPMU, through the Ministry of the Living Environment and Sustainable Development (Benin) in collaboration with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS).
The main goal of the project is to strengthen the resilience of ecosystems to climate change and improve the livelihoods of the populations within the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex (WAP) shared by Benin, Burkina and Niger - through the establishment of a Multi-Risk Early Warning System (MR-EWS), and the implementation of concrete adaptation measures for the complex.
