June 8, 2022 - Kick-off of the international conference "Ecosystems, key tool for the development of the African continent", organized by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory with the financial support of the French Development Agency.
High-level speeches were delivered at the opening session, pressing issues were pointed out and interrogations were made to which the different panels will try to provide answers.
Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory, took the session to send out alarm signals and remind that it was high time the world took action rather than making observations.
Speeches of Mr. Gilles Kleitz, Executive Director of the French Development Agency, Mr. Abdoulaye Mohamamou, Executive Secretary of CILSS and Mr. Taieb Baccouche, Secretary General of the AMU, delivered by Mr. Noureddine Omar El Mokhtar, as well as H.E. Mrs. Garama Saratou Rabiou Inoussa, Minister of the Environment and FAD of Niger, started the debates.
The works were officially opened by H.E. Mrs. Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of the Environment of Tunisia, host country of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory.
The two-day debates will bring together a hundred high-level experts from all walks of life and will focus on issues relating to ecosystems, climate and natural resources in Africa.
