Hackathon on remote sensing and crop mapping in Africa
GMES & Africa - Digital Earth Africa
Profiles sought: Students in Computer Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography, Agronomy, Engineering (Hydraulics or Rural Engineering), GIS and Remote Sensing, etc.
The students will be selected to develop, in teams or on their own, methods and products for crop mapping using Copernicus satellite images and Digital Earth Africa's (DEA) Machine learning technics and Cloud Computing tools. Using the DEA platform, participants will have access to a wide range of remote sensing data: Sentinel, Landsat, etc.

- Face-to-face for Mauritanian students: Nouakchott, Mauritania.
- Online for other participants.

The Hackathon is organized by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) as part of GMES &Africa, in partnership with Digital Earth Africa (DEA). It will take place alongside the GMES &Africa regional workshop - North Africa Consortium.
The aim is to bring together passionate people about using satellite image data and Cloud Computing and Machine Learning tools and techniques to develop efficient methods and accurate crop maps, useful for decision-makers and users involved in food security in Africa.
