The participation of the Sahara and Sahel…
The Desertif'actions (D'A) international summit to be held in Montpellier (France) from October 5 to 8, 2022, is a multi-stakeholder meeting open to the world and an opportunity for the international civil society to meet and speak in favor of agroecology. This year's edition, co-organized by CARI, the OSS and the UNCCD, provides for awarding prizes for its international press cartoon contest, open from June 29, 2022 to August 20, 2022, with two prizes to be handed. It is aimed to all press cartoonists from all countries having published at least one press cartoon since June 2021. The contest topic is droughts.
The civil society advocacy construction and support is a focus on the agroecology contribution as a response to the desertification, biodiversity, climate, food security and more broadly human development challenges. The Desertif'actions advocacy aims at alerting decision-makers and the general public on land issues. 300 people are expected to take part in this summit.
By bringing together NGOs, scientists, local authorities, international institutions, private and public sector stakeholders in Montpellier, the initiative aims at peer-to-peer experience sharing and popularizing scientific advances in the field of sustainable land management and agroecology. It will thus make it possible to shed more light on good practices, resource persons and pilot projects.
The D’A22 purpose perfectly fits with the OSS 2020-2030 strategy that aims at supporting the African countries in the implementation of their sustainable development strategies.
The Sahara and Sahel Observatory makes a contribution and supports this dynamic of CARI, an OSS member since April 2012.
