NEXUS project

The NEXUS initiative is part of a broader effort to explore and strengthen the links between water, food security, energy, and ecosystems. By highlighting the interconnections across these sectors, the project seeks to build a common foundation for more sustainable and cooperative resource management.

The first stage focuses on a comprehensive NEXUS assessment, aimed at mapping and defining the interconnections in the use and management of water, land, energy, and ecosystems. This analysis provides an integrated understanding of the dynamics at play and identifies the key levers for coordinated action.

The second stage concentrates on institutional analysis and the review of options for transboundary cooperation. Its purpose is to shed light on existing frameworks, assess their limitations, and highlight opportunities to strengthen collaboration among riparian countries.

Ultimately, the initiative aspires to develop a shared vision for the NWSAS management, one that reflects the priorities and aspirations of countries as well as stakeholders across all water-using sectors. This shared vision serves as a strategic pathway to reinforce transboundary cooperation and ensure the equitable and sustainable use of the resources.
