The regional workshop - Restitution of the "Water Stress in North Africa" ​​Initiative results, comes to end with the recommendations of the participants and representatives of the different relevant entities and institutions.

Opening speeches of the Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, the OSS Executive Secretary and the AFD Regional Director, highlighted the challenges and issues of water resources in the region, before giving way to the presentation of national summaries that focused on the necessity of using unconventional water resources.

The first session was followed by the presentation of the OSS-produced regional summary that resulted from the national summaries.
 
The group work of the third session gave rise to contributions and recommendations that will extend this regional symmary.

Mr. Frédéric Maurel, AFD representative, reminded that his institution is strongly committed to climate finance and that its interventions mainly relate to water and sanitation. He mentioned a number of projects funded in North African countries.

An online evaluation of the Initiative, led by Mr. Marc TEVINI from the AFD, focused on the project Monitoring-Evaluation process.

The closing session was led by Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra and Mr. Mathieu Vasseur, who expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the exchanges and debates during the various sessions of the workshop.

In his speech, the OSS Executive Secretary, emphasized the importance of this event that made it possible to address the issue of water stress and to discuss the different prospects for the mobilization of unconventional water.

“A common endeavour to face water stress in North Africa, the Sahara and Sahel Observatory is committed to it,” he said.
