The Sahara and Sahel Observatory organized a side event entitled "Climate Finance: Providing Solutions for Land and Ecosystems in Africa", on December 4 at the Francophonie Pavilion at COP28 in Dubai.
The event that was meant to be a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices in climate finance, was moderated by Mrs. Khaoula Jaoui, OSS Climate Department Director, and examined the best practices for restoring land and protecting ecosystems in Africa.
In his introductory presentation, Mr. Steve Muhanji, OSS Climate Finance Expert, highlighted the Organization's main areas of intervention within the framework of its action financed by financing windows dedicated to climate change adaptation.
In his speech, Mr. Luc Gnacadja, Chairman of the OSS Strategic Orientation Committee, emphasized the importance of innovation in Climate Finance, in order to better meet the needs of the populations. He recalled the need to perceive Climate Finance differently, not only as a "funding that comes from abroad", but as a tool that should be integrated into countries' financial policies.
The representative of the Adaptation Fund, Mr. Mahamat Abakar Assouyouti, Senior Climate Change Specialist, reaffirmed his Organization's commitment to Africa, a continent particularly vulnerable to climate change.
Mr Nebyida Lamech KABORE, National Designated Authority of the Green Climate Fund of Burkina Faso, recalled the importance of Climate Finance as a key tool to stimulate more sustainable initiatives, embedded in national and regional public policies.
