Copernicea "National training workshop on Ecosystem Natural Capital Accounting" May 08 - 12, 2023, Niamey - Niger
Decision-makers met in Niamey with environment and ecosystem accounting experts, within the framework of the national training workshop on Ecosystem Natural Capital Accounting, in order to build their capacities on the use and production of the Niger ecosystem accounts.
Mr. Harouna RACHIDI, Director of the National Center for Ecological and Environmental Monitoring (CNSEE) and Mrs. Abir BEN ROMDHANE, Environmental Expert at the Sahara and Sahel Observatory kickstarted the sessions of the workshop. Mrs. Fatou MAR, OSS Land Department Coordinator, made a speech to congratulate the CNSEE team for having co-organized the training and to give credit to the commitment of all the participants and to the involvement of the project partners.
This meeting aims to raise awareness among national stakeholders on the importance and usefulness of ENCA tools for the development of African ecosystems and to reinforce their ability to produce the first ecosystem accounts for Niger. The session that was moderated by Mr. Thierry TAPSOBA, Environmental Expert at the OSS, was dedicated to the presentation of the Copernicea regional platform and made it possible to explain its functionalities and to make sure it is correctly handled by the partners.
During the training, the OSS representatives, supported by Mr. Jean Louis WEBER, designer of the ENCA tool, will explain the different stages of the Niger ecosystem accounts production. In addition, an update will be made on the state of implementation of the planned actions and a roadmap will be established with the national experts with a view to fine-tuning the first results of the ecosystem accounts and defining an inclusive approach to their production and dissemination for the benefit of different users.
