The OSS took part in a regional technical workshop on improving climate information and analysis for better mobilization of Climate Funds in support of adaptation initiatives in Africa. This meeting was organized, on December 6 and 7, 2022, by the African Development Bank (AfDB), in partnership with the Global Center for Adaptation (GCA), the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), under the technical assistance plan of the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP), aimed at accelerating and scaling climate adaptation action across the continent.
During the meeting, Africa Direct Access Entities (DAEs) shared feedback on the difficulties they had while drafting the project funding proposals, particularly those related to the rationale for adaptation and the translation of climate data and risk analyses into adaptation-related interventions. This initiative has also provided African DAEs with additional capacity support in climate data, tools and methodologies, which will enable them to better meet the GCF requirements and increase their chances of approval.
Information sessions were dedicated to the presentation of new initiatives and mechanisms most likely to help accredited entities have a better access to quality climate information, with the aim of mobilizing more financial resources for climate adaptation in African countries.
