A Memorandum of Understanding has just been signed between the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS), and the Regional Center for Remote Sensing of North African States (CRTEAN), which aims to establish an appropriate framework to foster and promote cooperation between the three parties in areas of common interest, in particular, geospatial sciences in support of environmental monitoring and agricultural management in the Arab region.
Within the framework of this MoU, the three parties will have to make regular consultations and provide support and technical advice to joint work programs.
They also undertake to exchange information, data and studies on the platforms made available to the parties, namely the MISBAR and MISLAND platforms which were developed under the GMES&Africa project.
In addition, the OSS, CRTEAN and AOAD have proposed the establishment of a human capacity building program which aims at developing the skills and competencies through expertise and knowledge sharing meetings.
Besides, the three parties shall establish a technical guidance and monitoring committee, which will be responsible for proposing joint activities and projects, monitoring-evaluating the progress in the implementation of the agreed projects and activities, and work to overcome any difficulties that may be encountered.
