Participation of the OSS in the regional dialogue organised by the CBD from 16 to 19 January 2024 in Amman.
The OSS is taking part in the regional dialogue, organized by the CBD with the support of the Ministry of Environment of Jordan for the MENA region, from January 16 to 19, 2024 in Amman. This event aims to boost the experience sharing and mutual learning and places particular emphasis on updating National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), as well as national objectives, in alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for Biodiversity 2030 (KMGFB).
Mrs. Abir BEN ROMDHANE, OSS environmental expert, highlighted the achievements of the COPERNICEA project, emphasizing the importance of Ecosystem Natural Capital Accounting (ENCA) as an integrating tool to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the KMGFB objectives. She also focused on the OSS support to countries in building their reporting capacity in order to meet their responsibilities under international conventions and on the role it plays in discussions on capacity building and development, and national financing of biodiversity.
The revision of NBSAPs, overall governmental and societal approaches and the integration of the Cartagena and Nagoya Protocols, as well as the development of national NBSAP monitoring plans were also put to discussion.
Lessons learned and opportunities identified during this meeting will contribute to the organization of a forum for the country review of the topics covered. The OSS participation in this event is a proof of its unfailing commitment to African countries and international conventions, emphasizing its role in biodiversity initiatives.
