Training Workshop on Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) and Strategic Action Program (SAP). December 26-30, 2023. Bamako, Mali.
On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, the workshop on the development process of TDA/SAP recommended by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for International Waters commenced in Bamako. This training session will span five days and conclude on December 30, 2023.
Organized by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory in collaboration with the National Directorate of Hydraulics (DNH) of Mali as part of the NB-ITTAS project, this training aims to enhance the capacities of key actors from the countries of the Iullemeden-Taoudéni/Tanezrouft Aquifer System (ITTAS) for a participatory formulation of the ITTAS Cooperative Water Resources Management Strategic Action Program.
Mr. Sékou Diarra, National Director of Hydraulics and representative of the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation of Mali, chaired the opening session in the presence of Mr. Allomasso Tchokponhoué, Coordinator of the NB-ITTAS project, and Mrs. Bambara Apolline, representative of the Coordinator of the Water Department of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS).
In his opening remarks, Mr. Sékou Diarra emphasized the importance of integrated and cooperative management of the ITTAS groundwater resources, highlighting its strategic role in fostering sustainable socio-economic development within the sub-region through the implementation of the SAP.
This training is facilitated by Professor Norbert Fenzl, a renowned international expert, for the benefit of the project's national directors and focal points, as well as representatives from Ministries responsible for Water and academic institutions of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA). Participants will gain expertise in the TDA/SAP development methodology, mastering key steps such as the collection and processing of basic data, identification, and prioritization of transboundary issues and their environmental and socio-economic impacts. The training will also cover the identification of leverage points, strategic reflection and planning, as well as the development of the TDA and SAP.
