Second GMES&Africa National Workshop in Egypt November 22-23, 2023 Al Tor - South Sinai
This workshop is organized by the Desert Research Center (DRC) with the support of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) and aims to promote awareness among end-users and beneficiaries about the project's products and services. It also pursues stronger capacities of the stakeholders in the use of the MISLAND, MISBAR and GUETCROP platforms in the Sinai region.
The participants and representatives of the DRC, the Ministries of Agriculture, Land Reclamation, Irrigation, Water Resources and Environment, research centers and universities, as well as land monitoring experts and AI professionals will have the opportunity to sit for training sessions on vegetation degradation monitoring, the use of MISBAR for satellite imaging services and the integration of AI in land monitoring techniques.
Professor Hossam SHAWKY, Director of the DRC, opened the session and emphasized the importance of conducting researches in sustainable natural resources management. The Chief of Program, Professor Sami ABOU RAGAB, discussed the current sustainable resources management challenges in Sinai, with a focus on agriculture, water and the environment. Directors General of agriculture, water resources and the environment in the Sinai region also took the floor to share their prospects and initiatives.
Mr. Amjed Hadj TAIEB made a presentation on the GMES&Africa project that was followed by an overview of the project's goals and main activities at regional and national levels. The presentation went through the services and platforms such as MISLAND, MISBAR and GUETCROP, highlighting the importance of coordination and collaboration in the successful implementation of the project.
