29th session of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory Executive Board June 7, 2023, Kampala, Uganda

The Sahara and Sahel Observatory concluded on June 7, 2023 in Kampala, Uganda the 29th session of its Executive Board under the chairmanship of H.E. Mr. Al-Sayed El-Quseir, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
 
The session opening was given by H.E. Mr. Al-Sayed El-Quseir, Chairman of the Board and by the speeches of Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the OSS, H.E Mr. Sam Cheptoris, Minister of Water and the Environment of Uganda and H.E Mrs. Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of the Environment of Tunisia, delivered by Mr. Lotfi Ben Saïd, Director General at the Ministry.

The meeting gave the opportunity to go over the implementation of the recommendations of the 28th Executive Board session, review the 2022 activity report and the 2023 activity program. It also made it possible to adopt the 2022 financial statements of the Organization as well as the auditor’s report.
  
During the meeting, new policies developed by the OSS Executive Secretariat were also adopted.

The participants were pleased with the results they were given. The exchanges highlighted the need for the Organization to keep moving forward and to play a key role in serving the best interest of the African continent. The EB members expressed their unfailing and renewed commitment to backing the Organization and supporting it at a high political level.

At the end of the meeting, motion passed giving Mauritania the organization of the 30th EB session and giving Tunisia the organization of the 7th session of the OSS General Assembly. The dates of both events are yet to be confirmed. 

The OSS Executive Board includes high-level representatives of member countries and sub-regional, regional and international organizations.
