The regional workshop on policy components to improve the management of water resources of the Iullemeden/Taoudéni-Tanezrouft Aquifer System started this morning, August 19, 2024 in Ouagadougou. The event was opened by Mr Wendémi Cyprien Tizambo, Director General of Water Resources at the Ministry of the Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation, and Mr Abdelkader Dodo, representing Mr Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory.

Mr. Tizambo recalled the challenges ahead of the Sahelo-Saharan region, in particular the scarcity of water resources, the degradation of ecosystems and the impacts of climate change.

Mr Abdelkader Dodo reminded that the NB-ITTAS project aims to truly make it possible to contend with these challenges by promoting integrated management of surface and groundwater resources.

This two-day workshop will be followed by 2 other meetings to review the communication strategy and plan of the NB-ITTAS project with a view to mobilizing stakeholders on IWRM issues, and promoting the exchange of water resources shared management best practices.
