The Sahara and Sahel Observatory is participating in the 5th Mediterranean Water Forum, 5th to 7th, 2024, Tunis

This morning, the forum began its proceedings under the theme "Together for shared water sobriety", bringing together over 1000 participants from Mediterranean basin countries.

The objective is to discuss the water-related challenges and issues in the region with a view to formulating recommendations for the 10th World Water Forum scheduled in Bali, Indonesia, from May 18th to 24th, 2024.

This fifth edition of the forum, integrated into the Mediterranean preparatory process for the 10th World Water Forum in Bali 2024, is organized in Tunis upon the invitation of the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources, and Fisheries, as well as the Ministry of the Environment. It is orchestrated by the National Water Distribution and Exploitation Company (SONEDE), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM) and in coordination with the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME).

The OSS plays a significant role in this major regional event by hosting two parallel events to share its experiences in water resource governance, setting up consultation mechanisms, and hydro-diplomacy. The first, organized by Swiss Cooperation in Tunisia, focuses on cross-border management to promote shared stability, security, and prosperity. The second, organized by "Business France", addresses the theme "Action for water and climate". The "Regulation, Right to Water, Conflict Prevention/Resolution" will be the last theme in which the OSS will participate, coordinated by the Mediterranean Water Institute.

B2B meetings are also scheduled to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experiences, develop concrete action plans, and establish collaborations for better water resource management.
