OSS at UNFCCC COP 29: Strengthening collaboration on early warning systems as indispensable tools for climate change adaptation

The Coordination Unit of the North Western Sahara Aquifer System Consultation Mechanism (NWSAS-CM), organized a regional training workshop on the protection of the NWSAS deep water boreholes in Gabès (Tunisia), from March 9 to 10, 2023.
Engineers responsible for monitoring the construction of deep water boreholes were the key target of this training that made them have extensive knowledge of corrosion spoiling and damaging the hardware and to have better command of the boreholes’ protection approaches and techniques.
It is worth reminding that the deep waters are highly important for the economic and social development of Algeria, Libya and Tunisia sharing the NWSAS that extends over a 1 million km². The mobilization of these resources makes it possible to meet a great deal of needs from supplying the populations with drinking water to irrigated agriculture and livestock farming, as well as the tourism and industrial activities related demand.
Since it was created in 2007, the NWSAS-CM Coordination Unit spared no effort to achieve the objectives set by the declaration of the Water Ministers in the three NWSAS countries, through better information dissemination and technical staff capacity building for sustainable management of the groundwater resources.
