As part of the APRESOD project (Support for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Degraded Soils in the North-West and Center-West of Tunisia), the three-day training workshop kickstarted on December 19, 2023. This project, funded by GIZ and implemented by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) in close collaboration with DGACTA and GIZ, aims to demonstrate the positive impact of Sustainable Land Management measures on adaptation and mitigation efforts and on strengthening soil resilience to the harmful effects of climate change.
This workshop aims to build the capacities of national actors on Climate Finance mechanisms such as the Adaptation Fund (AF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). For this to happen, representatives of the DGACTA and CRDAs from the seven governorates of the North-West and Center-West regions of Tunisia will have the opportunity to study success stories and develop practical skills for the mobilization of the necessary resources.
The opening session was marked by the speech of Mr. Nabil Hamada, OSS Administrative and Financial Department Director, who explained that Africa, a perfect continent for adaptation, was dramatically falling short of what is needed in terms of funds to be granted by the developed and industrialized countries. On the other hand, accessing and mobilizing these funds requires proven skills and acquired know-how! Hence the interest of this workshop in building the technical capacities of the relevant DGACTA and CRDA executives for easier access to Climate Funds.
