Mr. Nabil BEN KHATRA, OSS Executive Secretary took part as a panelist in the high-level panel on “The program accelerator: a key tool in the implementation of the Great Green Wall (GGW) in the Sahel"

On the occasion of his participation in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Mr. Nabil BEN KHATRA, OSS Executive Secretary took part as a panelist in the high-level panel on “The program accelerator: a key tool in the implementation of the Great Green Wall (GGW) in the Sahel", organized by the Ministry of the Environment of Mauritania, on December 4, 2023. His intervention focused on the environmental context and put special emphasis on geomatics to support the implementation of initiatives, such as the Great Green Wall (GGW).

The OSS Executive Secretary took the opportunity to highlight the difficulties ahead of this initiative with a view to drawing lessons and be able to speed up the process and to explain that large-scale initiatives require time to be implemented, involving time-consuming and resource-demanding stages such as design, mobilization, planning, financing, implementation and monitoring-evaluation.

He also presented the holistic approach that the OSS takes in carrying out its activities, in line with the synergies of the conventions it speaks for, and presented as an example the pan-African GMES&Africa program coordinated by the African Union and the Copernicea project coordinated by the OSS and financed by the AFD.
