August 2022: the Niger component of the AdaptWAP project provides groups of women market gardeners with irrigation equipment

Two groups of women in the cities of Kirtachi and Falmey, surrounding the Niger component of the W Regional Park, received small-scale irrigation equipment and materials as well as seeds and tools for their first cultivation, in August 2022.

Besides, fencing off areas and concrete basin construction works have been undertaken so that women farmers grow vegetables in a fenced market garden fitted with wells for irrigation.

The development of market gardening activities shall make it possible for the beneficiary women to both use part of the vegetables for their own subsistence and make money by selling the other part of what they produce.

These actions are part of the improvement of the livelihoods of local populations under the "Integration of Climate Change Adaptation Measures in the Consolidated Management of the WAP Complex" AdaptWAP project.
