On the occasion of his participation in CoP26 which is taking place in Glasgow from October 31 to November 12, 2021, Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra, Executive Secretary of the OSS took part in the “Water Action Event. The goals of the Paris Agreement are within reach by tapping the potential of water”.
During his speech, Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra highlighted the intimate connection between economic and social development in Africa and the availability of groundwater and surface water, which remains difficult to mobilize.
He also insisted on the need to identify and finance large-scale projects on which the future of millions of people will depend, restating that the OSS is working with its partners to mobilize all the relevant stakeholders to meet this major challenge.
It was within the framework of the event, co-organized by AGWA, CDP, IUCN and SIWI, the Marrakech Partnership and the High-Level Climate Champions which would be a platform for new commitments aimed at achieving the ambitious net zero leadership emerging across the water sector and its central role in delivering resilience for a billion people.
Private sector companies, including water and sanitation utilities responsible for managing large volumes of water, public and private financial institutions and donors, research institutions working on water and food, as well as intergovernmental organizations and frameworks having a direct impact on water and water-related ecosystems took part in this event.
