Burkina Faso is one of the six French-speaking countries (Burkina Faso, Guinea-Conakry, Morocco, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia) affected by the Copernicea project that aims to provide them with a clean and self-reliant operational system for Ecosystem Natural Capital Accounting (ENCA).
In this context, the General Directorate of Sector Studies and Statistics organized an information and review workshop on data sources for the preparation of the first ecosystem natural capital accounts, on November 16 and 17, 2021.
The two-day face-to-face workshop was held for the benefit of members of the National Technical Unit and resource persons and was marked by the speech of Mr. Michel OUABA, General Director of Sector Studies and Statistics (GDSSS), represented by Mr. François SAM, Director of Prospective and Operational Planning (DPOP).
The discussions made it possible for the participants to better understand the challenges of the Copernicea project, its objectives, results and the implementation strategy of the scheduled activities, as well as the role played by each member of the National Technical Unit in achieving the objectives of the project.
Holding face-to-face national training sessions for national stakeholders and beneficiaries to better adopt the techniques for the preparation of the first national ecosystem natural capital accounts was one of the recommendations of the workshop.
